The Vortex Atlanta is not a joint for kids—and remains unapologetically so. Everything from the setting to the menu is built for adults.
Yet in remains one of the best restaurants in Atlanta—garnering special attention for the fantastic and creative burgers they are known for.
Offering two different locations—one in Midtown, the other in Little 5 Points—this is not one to be missed. Whether you are a local, or are just visiting, you need to make sure the Vortex is on your itinerary.
Vortex Atlanta Menu
The Vortex offers a healthy dose of absolutely unhealthy starters. One that is not to be missed are the Atlanta’s Original Nacho Tots. Here’s a tip: Grab a fork! You won’t be eating these with your hands!
As mentioned before, this is a place that will serve up one of the best burgers in the country. I mean that—these burgers stand against any, anywhere.
Of course, you can get the good old stand-by’s like an incredible black and blue, bacon burger, or chili burger—that’s a given and you really can’t go wrong with them.
For a more signature flavor, try the Spanish Fly burger, or the Hell Burger.
For the really adventurous (or gluttons for punishment), you have to try one of the bypass burgers. Yes, that’s bypass, like the heart procedure. I have seen three people order the Triple—and I have seen zero people finish it!
It is a monster that includes two half-pound patties stacked inside three grilled cheese sandwiches (not a typo!), two fried eggs, eight slices of cheese, and 10 slices of bacon. Not to mention it comes with a bowl of fries and tots covered in cheese sauce.
All I have to say to you on that one is good luck!
The Vortex Environment
As mentioned before, this place is 18 and up—so bring your ID.
Here is an exerpt from the Vortex menu that pretty much sums the place up:
“At the Vortex Bar & Grill, the customer is NOT always right. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, especially if we think you’re a great big jerk. We strive to keep The Vortex an official “Idiot-Free Zone” at all times.”
Don’t take that to mean their service is not good, because it is. They just have a very unique attitude, and it’s reflected in their rules.
Both the Little 5 and Midtown restaurants are fun places to be. The decor is cool, and the people watching always worth a trip.
Service
Again, despite the strong warnings in the menu, the staff at the Vortex is great.
Your food comes out in a timely manner, and you can usually get a few great stories out of your server or bartender about the happenings around the place.
Cost
Prices are really reasonable at the Vortex.
On my last visit, my party of three had a starter, burgers, and a few drinks and the bill was around $65.00.
You really do get a tremendous deal here, so be nice and tip your server generously!
Overall
Like I said, this place is not to be missed. The Vortex Atlanta could probably designated a landmark, and is a must for any local or visitor.
Take your pick between either location—they are both great. But you will have to head to Little 5 to see the famous skull door.
